READ THIS BEFORE JANUARY 1ST, 2026…
(Or you will pay for what you don’t know)
By Iking Ferry
December 2025
Let me break this down like I’m talking to Mama Ngozi in the market
THE NEW TAX RULES HAVE CHANGED THE GAME IN NIGERIA
Next year, Nigeria will enter a more advanced tax system, one that the whole world is already using.
This time…
No hiding.
No stories.
No escape route.
As your Financial Literacy Advocate, let me tell you two major things coming:
1: You Can Now Recover VAT – If You Know What You’re Doing
Before now:
If your business bought supplies, paid for fuel, bought equipment
The 7.5% VAT you paid was your loss.
But from 2026:
Any business that sells VAT-able goods or services can now claim back the VAT they paid on business purchases.
Let me give you an Example
Imagine:
Mama Ngozi sells tomatoes and she also supplies small businesses.
Before:
She buys baskets, transport, packaging, and pays VAT everywhere.
All loss.
Now:
If she charges VAT when selling,
she can remove the VAT she already paid from the VAT she will remit.
Meaning:
You only pay VAT on your PROFIT side – not on everything you buy.
That’s more money staying in your business.
But here’s the condition:
Your business must be correctly registered
Your records must be clear
Your product/service must be VAT-able
You must charge VAT properly
If not, you cannot claim anything.
2: E-INVOICING + VAT FISCALISATION = NO WHERE TO HIDE
Please read this twice:
Me self know say, you know understand the grammar 😂.
Oya relax…
Let me explain
The new Tax Policy is now saying that Every company in Nigeria must now use the Government e-Invoicing System.
Meaning:
Every sale
Every invoice
Every VAT charge
Every money you collect
will show on government dashboard automatically.
No more:
“I sell am quietly”
“Cash only”
“Government no go know”
Omo… dem go know.
Even your POS money go show…
Your online sales go show…
Your business will be transparent like pure water.
Nigeria is now joining the digital tax world:
Kenya don do am
Rwanda don do am
South Africa don do am
Now it’s our turn.
As your Financial Literacy Advocate, let me me tell you What Businesses Must Do Now
If you run:
POS business
Restaurant
Supermarket
Shop
Construction
Fashion brand
Hair salon
Logistics
Any business that collects money…
Please listen carefully:
You must:
1: Register your business (No more operating on personal name) no be Business name oooh, I mean Ltd.
2: Get TIN (tax ID)
3: Use the digital invoicing system
4: Keep proper records
5: Learn how to calculate VAT and input VAT
Nobody will pity ignorance in 2026.
I know a lot of questions are going through your mind right now….
IKING WHY DOES THIS MATTER?
Yes oooh.
But let me explain.
Before now, government was losing trillions because businesses were not declaring sales.
Now?
System will declare it for you.
You can’t dodge what computer has already recorded.
This is not to punish businesses.
It is to:
Stop tax cheats
Build trust
Increase government revenue
Strengthen the economy
But ONLY smart business owners will benefit.
Those who learn fast will rise.
Those who ignore will cry.
JUST ACCEPT THE NEW REALITY
The world has changed.
Whether you like tax or not…
you will be part of the system.
Better to learn it now…
than pay for ignorance later.
If you want me to break down:
How to charge VAT
How to recover VAT
Which businesses must pay VAT
How to register properly
Your exact tax responsibilities
Or Even how to Calculate your Tax
Just comment:
“Iking help me before January 2026”
I will reply you personally, or use it to Create another post.
Knowledge is cheaper than ignorance.
Protect your business now.
